Oil on Canvas. 2016.
Started out as an abstract landscape. This shape of canvas requires the eye to move, creating duration. No reference sketch was used prior initiation, just an attempt to fill a space. During the painting process the walls became a mirror into myself, through myself into the world, this is common. I hope the process below reminds the viewer that they are always in control. To express inner thought and emotion is beneficial to spiritual health. If the thoughts are scary or the emotion negative, you can always "paint over it." Hints from nature gave way to solid foundation. A poem I wrote years before came to mind:
Let us flee the scene
like a tree that lost its leaves
before the seasons set them free.
